Jet (Lignite)

Jet is fossilized wood (Lignite). In the Middle Ages, Jet was worn for protection. In old Britain, Jet was believed to protect the households and wives of fishermen during their absence. It was also used as a traveler's amulet while "on the road". Jet jewelry dates back to 1500 BC in Britain. Queen Victoria wore Jet for 40 years in the 1800s. But today it is hard to find. Jet is used in conjunction with Amber in Wiccan ritual by the High Priestess. Some believe it has magic properties. Anyway, it is lightweight, and has even been called "Black Amber" by some. It is a MUST for grounding. I like to let anyone who has undergone a cleansing ritual hold a piece of Jet prior to their departure from my home. It is great for grounding them before they drive.

Ancient beliefs about the energies of stones and their methods of use have been applied to the understanding of Jet (Lignite):

Jet is known as a traveler's amulet for protection against attacks and accidents. I always have a large piece of tumbled Jet in my car for this reason.

Jet strengthens psychic awareness.

Jet, when worn on the upper half of the body can awaken the Kundalini.

Jet gets rid of nightmares. I grab my Jet sphere whenever I've had a bad dream. It calms me and lets me go back to sleep without going back into that bad dream.

Jet can be used by those in mourning; it helps them through the grieving process.

Jet is said to have been used to treat migraines.

Jet calms, protects, and grounds.

Jet can be held to fight depression.

Jet vibrates especially well with the Astrological Sign of Capricorn, and vibrates well with the number 8.

I have no medical evidence to substantiate the correlation between wearing this stone and the effects it will have on the wearer. The mystical healing properties offered above were partially paraphrased from one of a series of Melody's books in the LOVE IS IN THE EARTH series. Melody suggests that the metaphysical properties listed for each stone will have these effects on the wearer WHILE he/she concentrates on the desired outcome. The author further states that this is NOT a substitute for consulting your physician; and I agree. When I wear any of my stones or crystals, I feel empowered by them. Maybe it's just because I WEAR them with specific intentions -- it works because I told my mind it would, OR does it work because of the molecular interaction between my body and the stones/crystals? I don't know. All I know is it seems to work FOR ME.
